The 2012 hunting season boasted a total of six bull elk and 15 cow elk harvested.
One mule deer buck was also taken. We saw 6 bull elk scoring over 350 in the archery
season. None of those were killed in archery or rifle seasons so there should be
some “big boys” in the Fall of 2013.
The whitetail deer population was devastated in the Summer-Fall of 2011 by the “blue-tongue”
virus resulting in a 90%+ mortality. It will make room for more mule deer which
were not killed by the virus. We expect it will take 12-15 years for the whitetail
population to return to previous levels. One mountain lion was taken on a neighboring
ranch so that will also help the mule deer population as mulie bucks are the favorite
prey of the lions.
