Four bull elk were harvested this year; two in archery and two in rifle seasons. Most archery hunters had multiple shot opportunities; two bulls were superficially wounded along with missed shots and missed shot opportunities. That’s archery hunting! Eight cow elk were taken with rifle, along with two buck mule deer.
The third year of exceptional moisture resulted in an abundance of Spring and early Summer vegetation. However, September was one of the driest on record which made stalking elk for a close up archery shot very difficult. Total elk numbers and particularly bull elk populations on the ranch continue to increase.
