This fall was again very mild with frequent small rain showers. Vegetation was less than average but it stayed green thru September. The rut began early this year with many bulls searching for cows during the first week of the season. We had 9 archery hunters and everyone had shot opportunities resulting in 5 bulls harvested, 3 bulls with non-lethal wounds, and a couple of missed shots.
There were 3 rifle bull elk hunters who all killed nice bulls. One rifle hunter now has the record for the closest shooting of a bull elk (6x8) - which he shot from the cabin deck! Easiest guiding job we have ever had!
We did not schedule any rifle mule deer hunts this year as their numbers are down.
